The JP wiki of FFXII confirms that they prioritized quality over quantity for cutscenes & they wanted to promote player interpretation. For example, it does state Vayne's father was not murdered by Vayne, he poisoned himself after being convinced that his death was a necessity.
One can argue it's still murder but there is a pretty big distinction in the sense that Gramis consented to use his death to frame the senate and save House Solidor. Vayne convinced his father to die, instead of Vayne forcefully poisoning his father.
This is the scene that plays right before his death. So you can see how it's left to interpretation whether or not Vayne really murdered his father or no.
In hindsight, "is this your idea of vengeance" is a very interesting sentence. I wonder if this phrase goes all the way back to the time Vayne killed his two elder brothers. Did he kill them for his own ambition, or was he forced to do so because of his father?
I always thought "My hands are stained with blood. I see little reason to stay them now" was in relation to the destruction of Nabudis. But now, I think it probably goes all the way back to the death of his brothers.
My theory now is that the senate framed his brothers as traitors, and we know Gramis was a ruthless emperor, so he would have rather have his sons killed than risk House Solidor being undermined.
Holy shit, it's finally all falling into place. This is blowing my mind that I managed to understand this
