Cpl Robert Bruce Pass from Brixton, London of the 1/5th Bn Queen's Royal Regt, photographed with BBC War Correspondent Frank Gillard recording in a slit trench just behind the front lines a broadcast to go out on Christmas Day 1944.
Robert was a prewar territorial who had served the whole way through the conflict, including in many of the major operations. He was tragically killed in action around Hamburg just days before VE Day, on 22 April 1945, aged 26.
He was one of the battalion’s final casualties. He was ambushed whilst going out to meet German soldiers bearing a white flag of surrender. Robert is today laid to rest at @CWGC
Becklingen in Germany.
