"the elfin prodigy of British design"

Oh. This is going to go bad.
Super looking forward to his forthcoming book on Penguin where he can (again) tell us that corners and straight lines are the enemy, that nature is important, and that he invented the Magnum ice cream before Magnum invented the Magnum ice cream. But not mention ethics once.
Oh, this new project sounds excellent. 🙄
Weirdly, from what I've heard about people working in his office, employees don't get a lot of say in now many days or hours they work.
A man who advertised for a PA to "move Thomas between meetings", designed a Garden Bridge he said would be a success if people got on & off the same side, built a cable car for five commuters, and made a bus that blew up. Forgive me if I don't ask his transport advice.
I know this is like shooting fish in a barrel, but this is now my job and I have to do this even if it's a Sunday morning.
As @psmisek mentions, what a shame the Guardian don't employ expert architectural writers like @ollywainwright & @RowanMoore who could have offered free advice over language like this.
Hi architects, the stuff you do is easy, says this designer, the only problem is that you don't *checks notes* have the right politicians, elite & celebrities on speed dial.
Honestly, this fucking lollipop stick story, change the fucking record
All fucking Ted Talks get a standing ovation, they are textbook & scripted to stand and clap. Also, "self effacing" my arse
Yeah, but most "blue sky thinkers" (what other colour skies every get thought about?) don't fall upwards after every this. Damn those politics & committees stopping ALL the blue skies.
This distancing is actually sickening. It WAS his idea. He initially drew something up with Lumley in 1998, then reimagined it in 2012 before making a fucking wooden model of it and secretly presenting it to @BorisJohnson, who then commissioned it with a dodgy procurement.
The Guardian, having done so much excellent work on the Garden Bridge, should fact check that it was the Garden Bridge Trust who "finally pulled the plug", it was not in Sadiq's offer to do so.

"Tarnished by association"? IT WAS HIS FUCKING PROJECT
I think he means us and others, @WHurst1, we are cannibals now too, as well as miserablists, taxicabs
Taliban's of beauty & doommongers.

Anyway, Elfin Tom, great week to come out defending off the record lobbying to politicians. Great timing.
Yes, it's very sad. But it could have been and literally was predicted by New Yorkers who I understand adviced the design team to make the balustrades higher to disincentivise suicide.

The puff keeps puffing. The idea the Pier 55 pocket park, accessible by small groups via a bridge, built on concrete piles by a billionaire to give cultural capital to a plot of land I think he plans a shopping mall for, will save us from the post-lockdown blues is absurd.
oUTDoOrs MUsT OnCE aGaiN Be a PlaCE

you heard it here first.
Let me remind you of his 1000 Definitely Not A Garnish Trees project
My fucking hero
Brief aside, I like Heatherwick's Maggie's Centre, and as long as it doesn't leak, will help people fall with their cancer. Sadly though, it cannot be a model of healthcare as he hopes because the political & economic system he works towards is destroying the NHS
Oh god. The interviewer didn't get the memo about never asking this question
"humble"
Wooeeiii
Look out guys, Heatherwick's been reading the latest critical urban theory. You wait until he discovers Richard Florida!
Quick reminder that city planners literally have no powers any more, and sadly often don't have training in creative urban issues. But @PRACTICEPUBLIC are trying to help here.
I'll finish here. But bad news for us all if we liked "streets", Heatherwick is going to "reinvent" them

RIP The Street.

And what an appalling puff piece that offered nothing that's not a cliché in every single Heatherwick puff piece. That new PA is earning their £26k!
(Earlier on in this rage of a thread I called @WHurst1 and myself "taxicabs". I have no idea why my phone added that word, but it still makes more sense than anything Heatherwick answered in that interview)
