Almost all schools ban mobile phones in lessons. Schools have tried using mobiles from time to time but it hasn't caught on. There are good reasons for this. https://twitter.com/theAliceRoberts/status/1385964511983816706
For schools considering embracing phones in lessons here are a few questions to work through.
1. Are children allowed to use websites and apps other than those the teacher wants them to? If not how do you stop them?
2. Are children allowed to message each other in lessons?
3. Are teachers allowed to say in some lessons 'no phones'? If so then what do they do if children use phones anyway.
4. A lot of (maybe most?) parents don't want their children on phones in school. Do we say children have to have phones?
5. If children send inappropriate messages in school what happens? Do we take the phone? What if they then need it for a lesson?
6. Where do phones get charged?
I could go on and on. The point is ideas that seem sensible often fall down when we try to work them into plans. But an idea without a plan for implementation is nothing at all really.
@MichaelRosenYes and @theAliceRoberts would love to (honestly) know how you'd propose schools answer these and other practical questions.
