Thread:

People on here talking about saving funeral programs. Not attaching to the thread because my story is different.
I was interviewing for jobs that had me flying all over the country. I had set up two interviews in the NYC area and I needed time off.

This company had a talk with me about my excessive time-offs.
In two months, is been to Seattle, Portland, Chicago, and Albuquerque for job interviews. I had run out of time off and sick days.
Still, I kind of needed the job I had at the time. So I had to ask for unpaid leave. When insisting on an “emergency” reason, I made up “to attend a funeral in NYC” as an excuse.
How could not say no without looking like dicks?

Here's how: On the way out the door that day my supervisor requested a funeral program and copies of my boarding passes as evidence.
So - that night I stayed up designing a funeral program for a person. I grabbed a photo off LinkedIn.

It was beautiful. It had a Christian hymn on the back. It had selected verses and a bio, all the stuff you expect to see. It even had details of a real funeral home in Queens.
Before catching my flight, I went to kinkos in Meridian Idaho, chose my paper stock with help from the guy who worked there. He was almost too proud to be part of the caper.

I took the fake programs on the trip with me so they would have some luggage wear.
I brought one with me into work upon my return. Handed it to my supervisor on request with a copy of my boarding passes.

I can only assume she gave it HR.
I admit it was dishonest.

It was just a shit job to tide me over after the financial meltdown of 2008.

What they asked for was pretty shitty.

The fact that I had to lie to get time off was shitty.
I got a job offer within a couple of weeks.

I quit on the spot without notice - because fuck them.

They didn't own me and they didn't deserve more loyalty than they were willing to give back.
