Reality Check post this mornings attempts to find an ICU Bed for my cousin.
1) Most online resources are non functional / dead ends. Imagine those alone or with just one person attempting to navigate / call numbers that are off or incorrect.
1/2
2) Most people are copy pasting the same bad data repeatedly. This makes sifting even tougher as you have so many more comments to open and check
2/2
3) There is no effective centralised repository of data. Yes people have made search optimisers and websites and google docs but those are filled with the same copy paste bad data
4) There is a real challenge with the process. My cousin, her son and husband are all positive. My COVID positive nephew is running around (infecting more) as there is nobody else to handle this madness.
5) Hospitals just raise their hands, no ICU so you look for one and shift the patient. Why is it so complex for a hospital referral system to exist. Why must the patient look around. Don’t you have numbers for other CMO’s whom you are networked with?
6) The sands are constantly shifting. The minute a piece of useful information is posted, either the stocks vanish or the number is so inundated with calls that they switch off the number.
7) Localisation is dead. People are scrambling and willing to go anywhere for beds / drugs / consumables. For my cousin we are searching all UP all NCR all anything an ambulance with ventilator support can get to.
8) Nodal officers / CMO’s have no real secretarial back up to handle these cold calls. Their number is available but getting to them is next to impossible as they are inundated on the public numbers. They all have secondary private numbers for VIP handling
9) From my experience we are super fucked unless things change and change fast. By fast I mean NOW. Else the change will come when the worst is over. Then at the third wave we will rinse repeat cos we don’t learn do we.
10) It’s obvious the numbers aren’t anywhere near the real numbers. Else things wouldn’t be so bad, so tough, so impossible and I am scared. I am very scared. Because if I get it, there is nobody to pick up the slack. And would I want to expose someone to this level of risk?
Perhaps we need volunteers to handle this madness for people. Reach a hospital and volunteers take over and help you through the hoops? @AamAadmiParty @INCIndia @BJP4India do you see where we are. Put aside your differences and truly help people now. Things are dire. @VishnuNDTV
