So for the tactics let’s start with Arsenal since we controlled most of the possession. Artetas system was the usual system Arteta has been using since Tierney got injured.
Arsenal looked to create from crosses through the right hand side. As Pepe held his width on the left. And ceballos was in the left half space. While smith Rowe roamed around the pitch. And Saka was in the right half space.
Everton attacked in a 2-2-6 shape where James and Sigursson were in the half spaces. And the rb occasionally went forward but stayed reserved. And Digne attacked forward and overlapped. While Richarlison was an inside foward and Calvert Lewin the striker.
Everton also look to create from crosses to Calvert lewin and richarlison and created a good chance through this overload where the fullback ran into the space and crossed.
The xG says Arsenal created the better chances which I agree as Everton only had one shot on target which was the goal. And they neither created enough chances to win the game but Everton won it due to a costly mistake by Leno.
This game shows without Tierney we struggle against teams that defend in a compact 4-4-2 as we also struggled to create chances in the final third against crystal palace which we drew 0-0.
Arteta should have told ceballos to push into the left half space more because many times ceballos was too deep and was playing like a box to box where he should have been playing as a free 8. And because he was too deep the lw willian and Pepe were isolated on the wings 1v2.
