I've seen some people dismiss Super Cub as just an ad for Honda and while its certainly true that that's part of it, i think it misses out on a larger conversation we can have about the good and bad aspects of consumerism and the way large brands can play huge roles in our lives
A niche activity or hobby like riding motorcycles will inherently rely greatly on personal preferences of brand. Put two riders together in a room and they will invariably end up talking about what their preferred bikes are, what specific aspects and features of said bikes that
They prefer, and probably price ranges etc, you name it. Hell it's no different for someone like me who cuts grass for a living. My ability to work greatly depends on the quality of specific brands. If you heard me talking about Ex-Mark mowers i would probably sound like a
Paid endorser. When large aspects of our lives end up depending on these specific brands in particular, that's where the culture of consumerism comes into play. It becomes natural for a person to grow an affinity to that certain product as it allows them to attain things
That they may have not been able to in the past, creating what may seem like an odd emotional attachment to that brand or product. But it's only natural. I'm not defending the virtues of capitalism or anything but i think we need to understand precisely what we're watching.
