I had a brief and interesting conversation about education last night with my family. Not many people know/understand the strategies being employed by multiple governments' for public education.
What was surprising is that the room didn't understand that by continually changing the goal posts both governments (Labor/Liberal) have let down the public education sector and this has resulted in a return to the "back to basics" rhetoric.
If your workforce needs to keep relearning and changing their resources every government change, there is no time for the dust to settle on what your teaching and to give us the time needed to adjust our programs.
Also, the increasing workload, teaching to tests and filling curriculum with things parents should be teaching their children (basic empathy, respect and manners) take time away from public school teachers being able to adjust their programs adequately.
