So today I toured the Catholic University of America since its in my top 3 colleges i want to go to and I gotta say it was amazing!

And after the tour my fam went to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the immaculate Conception for a tour and A Mass!

Here's some pics
Also sorry if any photos are a bit blurry
Here you can see the sarcophagus of the Bishop who founded the National Shrine in the specially made founders chapel

And you can also see a life size statue of Pope Saint Pius X!
They had so many different small chapels that were all donated by different groups of catholics

Like in this one you can see the chapel that was donated by Hungarian catholics in the 4th picture
And in this one you can see the chapel donated by the Vietnamese catholics
They had their own little recreation of Lourdes and they also had a chapel donated by African-american catholics

And in the last 2 pictures you can see the chapel donated by Lebanese catholics!
The National Shrine also has its very own Eastern Rite Chapel which is made for Byzantine Catholics
Here are a couple more chapels
Some random pictures of the building I took
Iirc here is a picture of the chapel donated by the Slovakian Catholics? But I think k maybe not someone correct me if they know

And also here are some pictures of the Irish Oratory that the Irish catholics donated
And here is pictures of the upper church which was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

This part of the basilica was made in a mixture of Byzantine and Romanesque Architecture and it is gorgeous

This is also the part where the Mass that my family went to was held
They had 3 different domes and each was an absolutely beautiful work of art in its own right
Also on the sides they had side chapels for our lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of the miraculous medal, our lady of sorrows, and I believe, our lady of siluva!
Video of the tour group in the Upper Chapel
They also had a chapel dedicated to the Black Madonna, and 2 very beautiful mosaics of our lady of la salette and our lady of China!
Here is the biggest dome which iirc was called the trinity dome due to it depicting the trinity
On the corners of the trinity dome were icons of the 4 gospel authors

Im there's a special name for these corners but I forgot

Also sorry for the blurry pic of Matthew
And of course the 8th largest church in the world and the largest church in North America wouldn't be complete without its beautiful Altar

Also these 2 murals were above the side altars which ill post in the next few tweets
And here is the grand mosaic depicting Christ on Judgement Day

Def considering making the first pic my screensaver
Btw does anyone know what this Umbrella thing is?

I asked the tour guide because ik its important but he had no idea

And also here is a chapel dedicated to our lady of perpetual help

And also im out of tweets for this thread so ill post the gift shops thread separately lol
