Who is watching the volleyball ncaa national championships?
When people argue that ‘women’s sports aren’t popular and as such, will never be profitable- I think about women’s volleyball.
Also women’s gymnastics and softball, among others, but those are the big ones. I think basketball is pretty big too, but it’s always compared to men, so I’m leaving it out of this particular point.
Volleyball fills seats, even if teams aren’t that good. There’s also a massive country wide ‘little league’ system (where parents pay to get their girls on teams) and it’s a popular Olympic sport.
And there’s no real problems with the ‘problem’ women’s basketball gets saddled with—‘only two teams are good that’s so booooring!’ (Which I don’t think is true problem)
And yet...how much has the NCAA pushed women’s volleyball? How much have they hyped this espn 2 game?
How much institutional support does one of the most popular highly competitive women’s sports in college sports get?
That’s how you know that the lack of support for women’s basketball has nothing to do with men’s basketball being better quality or more interesting or comparative or any of the other excuses they give.
The NCAA doesn’t give a shit about women’s sports, not even the ones that fit its little made of list of ‘what u must have to get our support.’

It’s sexism. And that is all.
