Early on, little-used Curt Brackenbury gets a chance with Anderson & Messier. The crowd squeals with delight when Gord Lane gets taken out, partially, by Brack. Later, Glenn Anderson goes full missile, and Lane is hanging on for the ride.

4:54 into the 1st period, Clark Gillies finds Hector Marini in front, and the boisterous crowd is silenced. The Islanders have struck first.

Late in the 1st period, Oilers on a 4 on 3 powerplay, but they can't beat Billy Smith. Shots on goal were 9-8 Oilers in that period, but none of their 9 shots would be considered dangerous.
