Okay this is gonna be a little rant thread on addictions
1-
ADDICTIONS WILL ADVANCE!
No matter what, if you lose control over it. Eventually the regular just won't hit the spot, causing someone to go to harder and harder stuff.
2-
Obviously we see this in drugs, but we see it in porn/masturbation as well. Starting @ what your conscious wants (could be vanilla, could be kinkier) but eventually, it WILL advance into...
2 cnt.

into content MUCH harder and "unrealistic." Someone could easily go from masturbating twice a week casually...to 3 times a day JUST to get that dopamine.
3.

I think most of us are familiar with the addiction curve.
The more and more it spirals, the lower your "normal" dopamine levels become.
5.

This is why it's important to avoid invalidating those who are at "surface" level stuff.
Hence why I think we need to ditch the term "baby cuts"
5.cont
For those who don't know "baby" cut are cuts that go to only the top surface of skin. and while they are considered "lighter" physically, it is still SELF HARM.
5.cont

Those who are strictly "baby cutters" are still getting that same release other types of self harmers do. And while i'd rather have them be clean entirely, I don't want them advancing into dangerous territory.
6.

To reference my own personal experience, I was a "baby cutter" way back in 6th grade. Until the trend of "vertical for attention horizontal for results" joke was going around...
6 cont.

That's when I relapsed on self harm, I went 10x harder. Advancing into styro's and then beans. And when even THOSE didn't hit the spot? I started cutting my face, my chest, my legs.
6.cont.

Purposely cutting veins and mutilating myself.
ADDICTIONS ADVANCE.
7.

There wasn't really an overall point to making this thread but pls know this shit should be taken seriously from the get go.
8.

Things like masturbation and CERTAIN drugs are healthy to do btw. But it's important to educate and regulate yourself as well. Self control is a hard practice.
9.

^^^ It's also important to prevent them becoming a coping mechanism!!
