Raising two youth pitchers who would love to be guinea pigs for this. Any beta users out there who wanna help them out? https://twitter.com/teammstrd/status/1386063001652973569
So, because @TeamMSTRD liked my tweet, and because I have no followers (that’s not what I use this app for), there’s no shot I get access to this app without some context, so here goes...
I’m gonna tell you about my boys, and hopefully show how this app can potentially impact a wide group of people. 2/x
I’ve got two sons, aged 12 and 9, who play competitive (I.e. travel) baseball. They take it fairly seriously, and so do I (this thread may tangent into travel baseball sidebars) 3/x
Both play competitive because of their pitching. 12yr is 5’11” and already throws 71 from the left side. Threw a no-hitter and a one-hitter earlier in the year and plays D2* 4/x
For reference on whether or not that’s fast, go watch some little league World Series games. Those are 12, and sometimes 13, year olds. Rare is a kid throwing harder than 70-72 5/x
*In case you don’t know, travel baseball has three different levels: D1, D2, and D3. D3 is beginner, while D2 and D1 are more advanced. Bigger gap btw D3-D2 than btw D1-D2. 6/x
D2 is not easy to be successful at. It takes talent or technical skill. If you have one and a little of the other, then you’re a D2 lvl player. If you have both, you’re D1 lvl (IMO) 7/x
9yr plays a year up and still dominates. Sits between 55-60 (way above avg for a 9u player, from what I understand), also from the left side. 8/x
Some stats (mostly to brag):
12yr: 17 IP; 36 Ks; 1.94 WHIP; .167 BAA; 2.28 FIP
9yr: 15IP; 24 Ks; 1.80 WHIP; .259 BAA**; 2.45 FIP 9/x
12yr: 17 IP; 36 Ks; 1.94 WHIP; .167 BAA; 2.28 FIP
9yr: 15IP; 24 Ks; 1.80 WHIP; .259 BAA**; 2.45 FIP 9/x
**youth coaches, make sure you get a score keeper who knows what their doing as opposed to one who doesn’t know the difference btw a hit and an error 10/x
It’s impossible, as a coach, to know everything that happens in a weekend. Your eyes and memory will lie to you. Stats don’t. But if your stats are flawed, then they’ll lie to you too. 11/x
Needless to say, 9yr’s BAA is way off b/c his team’s score keeper never scores errors. Like, ever. Everything is a hit. It’s infuriating 12/x
Anyways... Both boys have exceptional velocity but average control. They both made big strides with improving control over the winter when they got some professional coaching 13/x
See, while I played high school baseball, I was never a pitcher. So I had no idea about proper technique for pitchers when my boys showed that ability. 14/x
I’ve had to learn proper techniques over time, and I’m still learning now. I want to know as much as possible so that I can help my kids get as good as they want to (whatever that might be) 15/x
Nobody wants arm problems at a young age simply because they were throwing the wrong way. And I see tons of kids who throw with terrible mechanics 16/x
I don’t think I’m special, because I’m sure there are tons of dads and moms just like me who have talented kids but don’t have the knowledge to help them 17/x
This app has the potential to fill that gap. That’s why I’m so stoked about it, and why I wanna get my hands on it as quickly as possible. 18/x
Also, that’s why guys like @tomhousesports are so great for dads like me. This ain’t widely available knowledge, so those that share it are godsends. 19/x
If you got this far, thanks for reading. I’ll now go back to tweeting once a year or so. 20/20
