I realised part 1 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure feels like a great example of what naturalism in literature is like. (even though it wasn't made during the time period of naturalism and isn't realistic)(thread)

For example, Dio was raised by a lousy father so he turns out to be a
n asshole, Jonathan is raised by a good father so he turns out to be an honest man, it all feels a lot like how things were written during that period of naturalism in literature

The ending also makes me think of naturalism,
spoiler warning for JoJo parts 1-3!
The ending also fits into the themes of naturalism, Jonathan is "forced" to defend his honor because of his bloodline, but is unable to overcome fate(naturalism says you can not overcome fate because your life is determined by your circumstances, genes etc.) because of Dio's
conniving and outsmarting nature, so he passes away and takes Dio with him, his last heroic act. But Dio manages to outsmart him, and succeeds in cheating death.
It's all super fatalistic, Dio's conniving nature and Jonathan's heroic nature clashing, but one winning over the other, despite Jonathan's kindheartedness. I think it's a really cool aspect of Phantom Blood. (end of thread)
