binge eating and the dangers of it — an informative thread
i feel like people downplay how dangerous and harmful binge eating is on both of the physical & emotional sides. especially for people suffering from eating disorders so i figured this might help ^^
- first off what is binge eating? by definition its the consumption of large quantities of food in a short period of time. mainly characterized by uncontrolled eating.

uncontrolled in the sense of lack of inability to cut down the food & not knowing when to stop eating
- how to identify a binge eating episode. usually a binge eating episodes includes 3 or more of the following :
✿ moving to the dangers now starting off with the most obvious one :
- weight gain & obesity: when occasionally binge eating weight gain is most likely followed especially if the amount of calories you're consuming isn't being managed with exercise, potentially putting your body in multiple health risks including..
• an increased risk of arthritis, type 2 diabetes, cancer, insulin resistance which, in the long-term, can be detrimental to your metabolism
• heart disease: as mentioned previously, binge eating causes weight gain which will increase your risk for heart disease. you’re more likely to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol ect... all factors that mean it’s more likely to cause a heart attack

- the dangers of binging after long periods of starving: binge eating is a common side effects after intermittent fasting for some people. binge eating after long fasts can cause : stomachache, physically discomfort, headaches,

- the dangers of attempting to purge after binge eating for people with eds:
your stomach could ACTUALLY rip off and instantly lead to death if you try to purge after binging!!
• im pretty sure some of you guys remember that incident where a girl died on her toilet seat after her stomach rip off due to attempting to purge after a big binge.

- possible dental issues : not everyone who binges gets dental problems but for many binging is a big factor for their dental issues
✿ the mental and emotional damage binge eating brings
- im pretty sure many of you guys on edtwt are familiar with the overwhelming feeling of guilt, disgust, regret, shame ect after a binge.
- here are some common unpleasant feelings you might be familiar with after experiencing a binge:
lack of control, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, regret, fear
yes, emotional / reactive binge eating exists, however its not worth it because most times it wont make anyone feel any better rather worse after wards, so its just better to try and avoid it!
