Sorry to jump on this but I LOVE TALKING ABOUT IT (if anyone's interested): Gauging accurate character height from animated shows is almost impossible, because characters can be bigger or smaller in the composition based on how we're supposed to perceive them in the moment. 1/? https://twitter.com/schildwand/status/1386066666233245698
Since this scene is about how Jim being vulnerable and in danger, he's lower in the frame than Morgana, so while she is Very Tall, it's hard to estimate a character's height this way. Here are some examples of inconsistent height for cinematography in Trollhunters that I love 2/?
My teachers used the phrase 'if it looks right, it is right' to say that, things don't have to be scientifically accurate in your art. If you're evoking the emotion you want out of the piece, it's okay if it's not how it would look in real life, and ToA does that REALLY WELL 3/?
tl;dr: take height comparisons with a grain of salt, because composition reigns supreme in cinematic storytelling. But the ToA team is SO GOOD at prioritizing dynamic and emotion that you really don't notice the shifts (unless you watch it a bunch of times, like we do lol)
Re:Various Jim Heights, I would love to do a breakdown about how children and adults are framed in animation and why DoubleFine is so funny for just saying the taller adults are just over 7' because of how we obsess over realistic heights in stylized media but ANOTHER DAY PERHAPS
