THREAD ALERT! I’ve gotten some requests for this, and for those who’ve asked for it… Why? Wtf is wrong with you? For those who haven’t, look away. Turns out, Elliot’s struggle resonates with me. I, too, feel as though I’m drowning.
Only he’s a fake person who just witnessed the murder of his wife (among other things). I’m a human mess who watched a TV show. But if there’s anything I’ve noticed in the past few months it’s that I am ✨unwell.✨ So here’s hoping working through this will help clear my mind.
Anyway welcome to another trip inside Emily’s brain, where we critically analyze a television show to death for the sake of psychological peace. If I let this out, maybe I’ll be able to write a novel or find a boyfriend. Who knows? Worth a shot.
I’m not gonna touch SVU with a 10 foot pole, save to say that yes, I thought Elliot should’ve showed up at the scene, but I understand why he didn’t.
I do think that if they don’t capitalize on the fact that he missed ANOTHER of her hostage situations (with a conversation, at least) they’ll be missing a huge piece of plot, but that’s none of my business.
Oh and a note: don’t get too attached to the crossover promo. I’m pretty sure there are only 3 shots in there (at most) that are from those episodes, including “standin’ right here captain” 🤤 with all the delays, I wouldn’t be surprised if these eps weren’t even in the can yet.
Okay, now to the gem of network television, my sweet lil baby OC. We open on poor lil sleepless Elliot, who leaves his teenage son home alone in the middle of the night to watch his dead wife blow up over and over again (what trauma???)
There's been a lot of talk as to whether El and Kath were fighting in the surv footage, so I took the liberty of recording it and watching it 70,000 times. It was definitely a little... tense. But she was "worried they were going to miss Liv's award" so it might just be that.
Something is not sitting right with me with Elliot's CO. I don't know whether it's that he's totally unremarkable and I can't even remember his name, or what. I don't have any theories about what his angle is, but give me another few days to spiral and I'll come up with something
WE HAVE QUICKLY COME UPON THE MOST IMPORTANT PARALLEL IN THE EPISODE AND MAYBE THE SEASON?? (and I'm literally not even kidding) The Case Of The Yellow Floral High-Tops.
Exhibit A: Eli, tying his shoes in 1x03
Exhibit B: Cole (RIP) running up the stairs to his death in 1x04
They literally dropped these bad boys in the FIRST SCENE of last week's episode... when Kathleen comes by to deliver her sisterly croissants. I took note, because, I thought, 1) 'HM... those are cute' and 2) 'Why TF is this kid putting shoes on to go to virtual school all day?'
The fact that these were dropped in our laps so early and so nonchalantly makes me think they mean way more than Elliot seeing a parallel between his son and the dead kid. ESPECIALLY given the perceived hit on Eli outside the apartment building.
(With all that said, it makes me v. uneasy that Eli is now living virtually 'unprotected' with Maureen and Carl... but more on that later.)
OK - that's all for now. Must go chronologically for the sake of my brain, so I'll get to the juicy stuff tomorrow. But for now, the bags under my eyes rival those of one Elliot Stabler and I'm nocturnal on weekends... sooo gotta go.
