2./ In 2009 a couple who made millions from care homes in Scotland "donated" the island of Little Cumbrae off the Ayrshire coast to Baba Ramdev, an Indian yogi who claims to cure homosexuality. 3./ According to Ramdev, a big supporter of the equally awful Narendra Modi, homosexuality is an addiction. 5./ We know lavishly funded LGBTQ+ organisations like @StonewallScot don't care about boring old gay rights anymore. But Ramdev also uses the word "transgender" as an insult so you'd think that might pique their trans-obsessed interest. Apparently not.
6./ Ramdev said he was happy to teach ordinary Pakistanis yoga but not a "hijira" like Imran Khan (hijiras being the traditional "trans" icons of India). Under the previous Indian govt the island's donation was part of a wide-ranging corruption enquiry.
7./ In response, Ramdev swung his millions of followers behind Modi, who has been helping the yogi ever since. 8./ They include him being caught on camera discussing bribery against BJP candidates, his claims to cure AIDS and cancer and ...the err..failure to account for his wealth including a certain Scottish island.
9./ Given @MhairiBlack, that bloke Paisley and St John of Nicolson bleat so much about conversion therapy they'd be making a fuss about a guru that claims homosexuality is "an American disease" which he can cure. I can find no evidence they've said a word.
10./ Maybe they only complain if the "converter" is a white-skinned Christian? 11./ I don't myself agree with banning people. It would be more useful to protest and then debate with the guru's followers, exposing his absurd views. But what did the LGBTQ+ peeps do last time Ramdev had a big event in Glasgow? Precisely nothing.
12./ It's yet more proof they've now become a lazy adjunct of the SNP state; a well-funded back-patting elite that focus their energy on critics who challenge their ideas but don't give a monkeys about actual homophobes or transphobes who are allowed to operate in plain sight.
13./ It's almost as if there's a pressing need for organisations that put LGB people first and aren't owned by the Scottish state. 14./ For those wondering how hard it is to find out about Little Cumbrae, the island is 90 mins door to door from the Paisley constituency of @MhairiBlack, 100 from the Bearsden pad of Mr Nicolson and 2 hours 20 from the HQs in Edinburgh of most LGBTQ+ groups. A world away?
