The left should have critiqued the state of exception 12 months ago. They didn't. So when angry and distressed people are marching, take some responsibility. There should never have been the authoritarian clampdown down on dissent. 1/6
I watched with horror through so many bizarre dystopian measures. People ensuring they were only walking an hour's route so that weren't "breaking the rules", benches with cages round them, 'non essential' items in shops cordoned off, drones to shame dog walkers 2/6
Elderly people imprisoned for over a year in care homes, millions excluded from any financial support, cashless economy being pushed, the push for vaccine passports. People blaming neighbours for running twice in a day. 3/6
Those baking banana bread and happily transferring their risk to Uber eats drivers and Amazon warehouse staff & delivery drivers whilst blaming the poor for going to parks. If I wasn't writing about this & keeping a log, I'd think it was fantasy. 4/6
Last year anti lockdown protesters were kettled and beaten and nobody cared. You can't be selective about who has state protections. The government are laughing that their divide & rule has us blaming one another & ignoring the billions being made from the pandemic. 5/6
And for the record I'm not a 'denier': I've had covid. I wear a mask and encourage outside socialising and activity. I also recognise my intense privilege as someone with a house, garden, salary, husband, & loved ones nearby. 6/6
