I had the honor of having an Aliyah at our niece's bat mitzvah today. For you beautiful goyim, this means I chanted the blessings (with Boss at my side!!) before and after our niece read a passage directly from the Torah.

In Hebrew.
Without vowels.

Tradition dictates you are called to the Torah with your Hebrew name, followed by either "ben" (son of) or "bat" (daughter of), and then your parents' Hebrew names. 2/7
As a #nonbinary Jew, I am neither son of NOR daughter of Reuven and Battia, so this caused me some anxiety in the days leading up to today. 3/7
Thing is, today was IN NO WAY about me, so I put it out of my mind and focused on our beautiful niece becoming an adult in the eyes of the #Jewish community and celebrating all of her hard work over the last year. 4/7
My sister put together programs for the non-Jews among us to explain the ceremony and how the people involved were part of our niece's life.

My sister, the brilliant and beautiful #WaverlyEarp to my errant and scattered #WynonnaEarp did her research and I was called as Matsima "yeled" Reuven & Battia: not son of, not daughter of, but CHILD OF.

My sister found a way around the traditional, gendered language. 6/7
A birdie told me that none of the @WynonnaWriters have sisters.

Let me tell you, they nailed the relationship on the head.

THE EARP SISTERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO ME DOT COM.

Also, #BringWynonnaHome because these writers have more stories to tell. 7/7
