yes, danielle was incredible — i saw so much of nina’s personality in her and her chemistry w cal was lovely. yet at the same time, i’m wary of anyone saying that she’s the “perfect” nina they imagined. here’s my attempt to explain why [1/6]

nina is fat. canonically. anyone saying “well i loved it bc she looks like me” is not giving the plus sized fans who were promised that representation any respect. some fans do owe danielle an apology — but those who spoke up about the lack of fat rep in media do not. [2/6]

eric, leigh, and danielle were all involved in this casting choice, which was made w the knowledge of how they were breaking a promise. however, there’s more nuance to it than “she could’ve not auditioned” — since many new actors don’t have the privilege to refuse a role. [3/6]

still, thin and mid sized fans need to understand that this is not their issue to dismiss. we’re given so little positive fat rep in media, and situations like these hurt — especially when so many, including me, struggle w how it seems like our fatness isn’t “acceptable”. [4/6]

and that’s exhausting. fat people deserve to be seen as more than jokes or imperfections in media — because we can be clever, gorgeous, and badass too. all we’re asking of grishaverse fans is to not speak over us and not “approve of” rep that wasn’t meant for you. [5/6]

finally, holding something accountable is not shaming or cancelling it. often, critiquing aspects of media is not hatred — and is instead a sign of how much people care and want to make it better. i hope we can all understand that more going forward. end of the thread. [6/6]
