💚an analysis of the theme of growth in self-love from awake to epiphany - Jin has learned to love himself and wants other to also find their inner selves and love them.

#WordsByBangtan💚💚
ps. i am very sorry for how long this thread is, because i ended up analysing the lyrics and the music video 😅
*AWAKE
firstly I would like to start off by talking about awake. Jin talks about how he believes that he should start 'flying', as he believes that it would be the best for him. he knows he will face struggles to reach his goal but that it's part of the journey. in the song, Jin
compares himself to others or the other 6 members: 'like those flower petals over there'. he believes he will not become as successful as them.

one crucial motive that's being repeated throughout this song is flying. now, this mainly ties into the whole wings era, but also to +
the entire song. flying represents freedom and an escape from the harsh world. in this context, flying is used to describe his goal or how he thinks he will not be as perfect or successful as the 'flower petals'. instead, he wants to run - this can represent him starting to chase
his goals. but, Jin is walking - this can describe how he could be in a dark place or how he's alone in this journey, and he doesn't believe that he'll reach there.

in this verse (shown in the photo), 'don't cry' and 'no lie' can be him trying to stop himself from having such +
thoughts and him consolidating himself.

*ANALYSIS OF IMPORTANT SCENES IN MV
beginning of the video, he takes a picture of the white flowers on the table. later, when he enters his room, the flower is ripped into petals and set alight. this can symbolise him trying to get rid of
his negative thoughts - this can be when he starts to love himself. soon, an extreme close up shot of his eye shows a bird flying. this can mean that he has now started to 'fly' and is reaching his goals. he then opens the curtains, and a mirror is seen. as another Jin is seen
(his reflection) this can be the other Jin seen in epiphany (as there's 2 Jin's in each scene). in the end, he's looking at a painting of a bird -this links to the symbolism of flying. however, where the flower petals were burnt, there are now 6 photos, each symbolising a member.
*EPIPHANY
Jin now has learned to love himself and embraces his imperfections:'The shining me, the precious soul of mine, I realise only now, so I love me, though I am not perfect, I am beautiful'. and wants others to do the same: 'Even if you get disturbed and feel afraid, walk+
forward, Meet your true self that you hid inside the storm'. he's now realised how he hid his inner self. he found his inner self and learned to love himself. the most important thing that he discovered was that even though he is imperfect (according to his eyes), his +
imperfection is beautiful.

in this verse (shown in the photo), the first 2 lines show how he looks at his imperfections and believes that others may not see him as he sees himself. he wants himself to understand that he is a beautiful person/soul and should not take other +
peoples perception of himself to heart. in the last two lines, he has learned to accept his imperfection and beauty and now proudly wears it, and he has now learned to not care about what others may think of him. for me, the last line really stands out. i believe this is a way +
of him saying that his body does so much for him, i.e. taking care of him, letting him live. and wants others to accept this as we often do not appreciate the basic things that our body does to help us live. as how sometimes we end up harming our bodies, we often forget to love+
our bodies for being with us through our journey.

in epiphany, a similar flower seen in awake is on the table. notice how these flowers are abloom. this can suggest how he is now in a much better place. as flowers symbolise love, it can also
indicate self-love and how he's learned to love himself. another thing to note in the beginning is how the colour palette is black + white, then later shifts to a blueish hue. this is similar to colours used in awake (there were mainly black, white and blue colours). another +
thing to note is how near the end, Jin closes the curtains (opposite of what he did in awake), and then we only see 1 Jin. the closing curtains can symbolise how he's learned to accept himself. hence 1 is Jin visible.

as there are 2 Jin's, this can symbolise his inner self.
when Jin leaves he takes his notebook with him, which he doesn't do at the beginning of the video.
