there is so fricken little i understand about lotr even my partner knows all the histories & meanings of things i have no idea about & don’t know where i could have ever learned?? it’s like everyone around me immigrated from tolkeinland

i’m going slowly thru the extended movies & trying to look up random confusions like “why did gandalf turn white” or “what is galadriel TALKING ABOUT” but the explanation itself might as well be in a foreign language (& kinda is????)

i still very distinctly remembering watching the 1st movie in theaters w/a friend who was SO excited for it & it was so completely not what i expected & made so little sense to me at the time (WHAT is a HOBBIT), i think i was even aghast that the movie just like...ENDED

then i tried reading the one with the dragon hoping i’d like it but i still didn’t rly understand or connect with anything about it. anyway the movies are enjoyable & i feel like you can sense how beloved the the story is to everyone involved & how much they cared 4 the rendering

also some things are fun to notice now like how often legolas & aragorn talk, like they have a RELATIONSHIP compared to the other characters to each other. that is fun. but also apparently meri and pippin are NOT twins and that’s not even their real names???

i just cannot believe meri & pippin are not twins. that i have gone almost two decades believing 100% completely that they are twins

this would be my repIicant thread except my partner is laid low by the 1st vaccine & the parking lot of the game store is too weird & scary for me to attempt & it’s raining so i don’t wanna walk

ok so saruman found these other humans whose lands were stolen from them & whipped them into violent frenzy to get their lands back..............

i have absolutely nothing against lotr or lotr fandome, it’s just one of those series that is so jarring for me personally to watch bc you suddenly realize “oh, no one making this thought that someone like me exists & might one day watch this.” like elves are realer than me
