Today was a good day, where we went to see my mum’s grave in Castleknock - I do wish my in-laws could have met her in life, but I’m glad they got to come to her grave (and my cousin’s and my aunt’s too). /1
Next up was an essential (long story) trip to Palmerstown, where we stretched our legs by going for a walk with my younger sister and my dad. Here you can see Dad by the prehistoric ring barrow - or if you prefer, the fairy fort - down near the river. No, I didn’t go inside. /2
Just a bit closer to the river we decided to show the in-laws the old Stacgory Church, which is probably 10th Century and definitely pre-Norman, though it seems to have been dedicated to St James later in the Middle Ages. /3
The graveyard surrounding the church is special too, with its yew trees (giving Palmerstown its old Irish name) and blue bells and gravestones going back to 1701, if not earlier. /4
We pottered about there a while further, looking across the Liffey to Farmleigh, before heading on down to the river /5 (I’ll return to this thread after dinner.)
