[covid vaccine]

I know that the character limit is annoying, but I really wish that when people tweet about the rare chance of vaccine complications or catching the virus after being vaccinated

That they would at least acknowledge these statistics are for the general population
[Covid vaccine]
I don't want people to say "oh only people with underlying conditions will have problems"

Because
A) that's really dismissive tbh
B) it is hard for many high risk people to get vaccinated
C) people can have underlying conditions & be undiagnosed
[covid vaccine]

I am fortunate that I was able to get vaccinated. By official textbook standards, I should have immunity by now

But uh...my immune system is weird?

So in a few weeks, my doctor is going to run an antibody test to see if I'm actually immune
[covid vaccine]

And hopefully I will have antibodies🤞

But even so, I am still going to be cautious because I am basically like a lightning rod for "rare" Medical Problems
[covid vaccine]

Like literally just last year, I got diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension and the prevalence of that in the general population is 1 in 100,000 cases
[covid vaccine]

But since I have a connective tissue disorder (maybe hEDS? maybe something as yet unnamed 🤷)

I'm at risk for a bunch of "rare" stuff that is uh actually very common among the subpopulation of people with connective tissue disorders
[covid vaccine]

So until there's a bunch of peer-reviewed data about the risk factors for catching covid post-vaccination

Or the risk among people with my weird cluster of "rare" medical stuff

I'm going to be Cautious
[covid vaccine]

And sure, most people probably don't have to worry so much because they're not lightning rods for weird medical problems

That's great! Please enjoy consensually socializing with other vaccinated people
[covid vaccine]

I just really wish that the way that people discuss rare medical complications was not a binary of

"Don't worry, only people with underlying medical conditions are going to die"

Or

*Pretends they do not see chronic illnesses that effect vaccine efficacy*
[covid vaccine]

Also, if you're looking for a better way to talk about different risk factors wrt the covid vaccine

Here are some ideas:
1) mention when stats are for the general population
...
[covid vaccine]

2) mention that immunocompromised people exist, and we don't fully understand the risk factors for say, organ transplant recipients or folks on chemo
3) encourage people who can to get vaccinated bc herd immunity protects immunocompromised people
[covid vaccine]

Also, if you have an immunocompromised loved one, or someone with a pile of chronic illnesses or whatever

Maybe keep checking in via zoom or text if they want, since they might not be able to socialize in person yet
