a man named isaiah brown was shot multiple times yesterday by spotsylvania county police while unarmed. few details been released, and its unclear what prompted the officer to open fire. isaiah is currently in intensive care.
the spotsylvania county sheriff’s office released a statement, as well as the 911 call and bodycam footage. the call begins around the 2 minute mark, and around the 4 minute mark officers arrive. they can be heard yelling at isaiah to show his hands and drop his weapon, +
+ though on the 911 call he had previously stated that he did not have any weapons of any kind on him. he was walking down the street with his house phone in his hand, and nothing else. at 4:23 in the video, the officer opened fire. multiple shots are heard, and the officer +
+ continued to yell at isaiah to show his hands. after that, isaiah’s brother came outside to see what happened while the officer administer first aid and waited for an ambulance to arrive. at 9:02 in the video, the bodycam footage is shown. again, the officer yelled at isaiah +
+ to drop his weapon even though he was unarmed. it appears that the officer mistook the house phone isaiah was holding as having “a gun to his head.” he then opened fire and continued to shout, “drop the gun” “show me your hands” etc while isaiah was lying on the ground. +
+ the footage is very dark as this happened around 3:19 am, and you can’t see much of what’s happening, but it’s still very disturbing and i advise that you don’t watch it. isaiah can be seen lying in the road, and the footage stops while the officer is performing CPR.
here is the video for those who want to see the sheriff’s statement and the 911 call, but again, i would advise that you turn the video off once the body cam footage starts playing.
the officer who shot isaiah is currently on administrative leave pending an investigation. i will do my best to update this thread if anything happens or any new information is released.
