why razor from genshin impact is autistic coded; a thread

his background. razor being abandoned at birth is easily connectable to the high rates of autistic children being put into foster care. ( https://www.spectrumnews.org/opinion/viewpoint/many-children-autism-end-foster-care/)

his backstory is very similar to a near universal autistic experience. many of us feel disconnected from our allistic peers which is why empathy can be difficult for us. empathy is hard to experience when you feel alienated from those around you.

this feeling of disconnection is a direct parallel to one of razors core struggles as a character. he is a wanderer, essentially, because he’s not human or civilized enough to fit in with the cityfolk, but he’s just human enough that he can’t fit in with the only family he has.

as an autistic person, this immediately struck me as, for lack of better wording, ‘WOW THATS SO AUTISTIC’

that’s what being autistic can feel like, always on the edge of two worlds and fitting into neither.

his speech patterns! this is again not specifically connected to autism but it is another issue that a lot of autistic people can struggle with. he doesn’t have very developed speech (at least not in the english language). while i’m partially nonverbal,

i personally do not have speech issues due to developmental issues. i can’t speak much on how his speech connects to autistic experiences, but if another autistic genshin fan feels the same and wants to elaborate from personal experience, you’re welcome to!

how he interacts with people. razor comes off as aloof or a loner because of how little he speaks and the fact that he is not fully in touch with his humanity despite the fact that razor is a very kind and caring person. this is something i can personally relate to.

i’m not really good at expressing my positive emotions and i tend to come off as aggressive or a loner even when i’m not. bennett and razor’s relationship (its up to you to interpret this as platonic or romantic, that’s not the focus of this thread) makes me

pretty emotional because growing up i didn’t have many friends who understood why i acted the way i did. bennett, while i don’t think he can fully empathize with razor, seems to understand and sympathize with him. he treats him as a real person and doesn’t underestimate

his abilities. as you can see with their relationship, razor is far from being cold or aloof- it’s just difficult for him to properly express himself alone and sometimes needs guidance.
