Just a friendly reminder of a few things.

1. This guy is older, and didn’t grow up in the privileged age of growth most of you are.

2. His discomfort comes from a lack of understanding things outside of him, which he was never shown to do, and now he fears it. https://twitter.com/orlandosentinel/status/1385581448363716608
My therapist taught me something super early in my struggle to be a better person:

You can’t know what you don’t know, and you certainly can’t know what you’ve never been taught.
Right now, in this very moment, you have in you things you think are acceptable that other people don’t. As you get older, the things you knew to be ok will slowly not be ok.

And as society pushes forward we will leave a lot of people in the dust.
That’s something you have to accept. This guy grew up playing cops and robbers in a society that treated women like nothing and glorified a white washed history.

Now he’s late in life and tired and confused cause he was spoon fed a small life and he is most comfortable there.
He won’t change.

He will MAYBE grow to accept, if we give him compassion and understanding, but what has been wired into his mind is there. It’s too late.

His voice isn’t yours.

His voice isn’t Disney’s.

It isn’t the futures voice.

His voice is one stuck in the past.
The real question we should be asking is why the @orlandosentinel chose to run a piece like this giving voice to a small minded individual falling victim to his upbringing and fear.

Oh that’s right, cause you all will share it and scream and get them clicks and revenue.
I’m not going to even comment on the fact that they specifically chose the image shared with this article. They knew exactly how you’d react and doubled down.
Lots of people think like this guy.

YOU. YES YOU. Will also one day face change that confuses you and alienates you, and hopefully we will have grown enough in a society that people will try to embrace you and help you understand.
Hopefully what won’t happen is a large news organization won’t use you to milk a bunch of angry justice clicks and shares.

I’m not defending this guy. I’m attacking the genius idea to give this voice a platform. The genius idea to monetize his small world view.
If anything I pity him.

How sad that this is the line in the sand that he trips on. How unfortunate.

He’s out here with a box of 8 crayons while society has moved well past that mega 96 box with the sharpener on the back.

What a bland view of the world.
He’s allowed to have this view.

And hopefully the positive changes Disney is making will pave way for him to leave if he chooses to stagnate and not grow, while a new voice, a fresher voice, fills his place.
I just want to clarify here, because words are hard and I’m not good at them, I am not looking to excuse this dude and his small views.

Just wanted to highlight the context that any clear thinking professional journalist would be aware of before proudly running this clickbile.
But I also think it’s important to stop yelling over these sheltered rubes and start seriously working on ways to communicate to them.

They don’t hear. They can’t. All they hear is aggression.

We need to keep finding more was to give power to the opposite of this voice.
