Personal development is a life long process. Your daily habits and mindset ( https://loveinspirelearn.com/2018/05/23/mindsets/) shape the person you are today. It is a journey of self-discovery and a continuous desire to become a better person than you were yesterday.
Personal development is about developing skills that will maximise your potential.
What You Need to Know To Achieve Personal Development
It starts with self-acceptance.
You are you. Every perceived flaw and beauty makes up who you are. To begin your self-improvement journey you must acceptance yourself and the responsibility you have for your actions. You are in control of your destiny and the life you live.
Know that every experience is a lesson and it is up to you learn from it or not.
Self-awareness is key.
In order to work on yourself, you have to understand yourself. If you don't know your strengths and weaknesses you wouldn't know what to improve upon.
SMART Goals are necessary.
As with all things, you must have a specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound goal to aim at. A goal helps point you in a direction, lets you know what you are working towards. With a clear vision in sight you know where and how to focus your energy.
Learning constantly is a must.

There is always more to learn and things to unlearn and relearn. Learning should be daily habit. It is the key to expanding your awareness, creating better habits and achieving better results. Take advantage of technology and explore the world.
Expanding your circle improves your growth.
You know that saying that you are the average of the five people you spend time with, well heed it. We are social beings and we learn and grow through observation and imitation. Therefore, the people you spend time with greatly impacts your journey.
Surround yourself with the people whose qualities you admire. Don't be afraid to reach out of your comfort zone. We need a variety of persons to help us in our journey. Don't only seek out people that think like you. Seek out those that can shake your beliefs and make you think.
There are many sides to life, shaped by the perception and beliefs we hold. So reach far and search wide.
Mentors are golden.
Having a mentor can help you streamline your personal development journey. They will be able to guide the process and save you from making unnecessary mistakes. A mentor can offer their own life experience as a reference or simply be gentle guiding hand.
They don't have to be in-person or even alive. If your ideal mentor isn't someone you can meet, consider reading their autobiography, biography, memoir, watching videos or consuming other source of media about them.
However, having someone to bounce ideas off of and give constructive feedback is still a great idea.
Gratitude is a cornerstone
With that I will dive into the importance of gratitude in personal development. To receive and achieve more, we must first appreciate all that we have. Be thankful for life, the opportunities and resources you have, and the people in you life.
Appreciate your wonderful super bio-computer of a brain. It is essentially an organic computer capable of absorbing information at great speeds, decoding and learning from stimuli and recalling information quickly.
If only we would program it to do so by eliminating those self-limiting belief patterns.
Do you appreciate the remarkable body we have? Our organs functions automatically to keep us alive and we grow and develop over time. The fact that we can move, talk, touch, smell, taste and see is amazing. We have a miraculous mind and body.
So why do we not appreciate it and seek only what is best for it?
It is not just about mindset
Currently I am reading The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma and I came across something. Most people focus on changing their mindset, their thoughts when seeking self-improvement.
However they neglect the other aspects of their being: " heartset (emotional), healthset (physiological) and soulset (spiritual)." Changing the mindset, i.e belief systems is only 25% of the journey.
What's the point of changing your thoughts when you are still hanging on to emotional baggage, like anger, fear and shame that prevents us from truly letting go and embracing life freely. Or neglecting our body so that we don't have the energy or health to pursue our growth.
Or connecting to something bigger than ourselves that fuels us with inspiration and light. Each pillar holds up the foundation of our ideal self.
