Got a delivery from a big clothes shop of stuff for Moss today. The sizes all fit her ‘comfortably’ and range from 8 (her age) to 12 years old! for a pack of underpants. Fortunately she isn’t concerned (yet) about size labels and I hope she never is but if she had a lot of
peer pressure or was brought up like I was, this is the sort of thing that can throw a little girl down a very unhealthy route. I’m constantly checking myself before I speak because my world was one of diets and being ‘slim’ and I’m fucked up because of it. Only recently I feel
like I choose clothes according to how I want them to fit me rather than thinking I ought be a shape concocted by the manufacturers and I want her to miss out on the insidious body shaming. Shops don’t help when their clothes for girls are tight and cropped and their clothes for
boys are loose and easy to move in, and that’s BEFORE we get onto the fucking trucks v unicorns boys v girls shitshow
Anyway she’s happy with the haul and I’ve started making clothes for her now so I hope she never needs to know what shop mandated size she is.
