Miya Atsumu is a goddamn hamster.

It might sound ridiculous at first, comparing someone of his size and stature to a tiny rodent, but Kiyoomi is now utterly convinced that his new teammate is exactly like the little critters.

For one, he never stops moving.
Like a hamster going berserk in the middle of the night on a hamster wheel, Atsumu just can't sit still.

He's always fidgety, always tapping a foot or drumming his fingers or nodding his head along to some tune nobody but him can hear.

It's distracting as hell.
"Miya. Please stop swaying around," Kiyoomi mutters quietly during a routine team meeting.

They're gathered around Coach Foster who's discussing a new strategy for their next game, but Kiyoomi can hardly pay attention, not when Atsumu is shifting from foot to foot beside him.
Atsumu glances up at the sound of his voice, looking surprised.

"Oh. I didn't realize I was doing that," he giggles. "Sorry, Omi-kun!"

Kiyoomi gives him a half-hearted grunt in return, satisfied that his distracting wiggling has now ceased.
That is, until five minutes later when his fidgeting returns in full force again - this time, he's bouncing on his toes unconsciously.

Kiyoomi sighs in exasperation. And then before he can rethink it, he stretches out an arm to clamp down on his shoulder.
Immediately, Atsumu goes still. Then he tilts his head up to send Kiyoomi a sheepish grin.

"Oops," he says lightly, the picture of blitheness. "Guess you caught me again, Omi-Omi!"

Kiyoomi sighs again.

And it's not just the restlessness, either.
Atsumu's hamster-like tendencies manifest in many other ways, but perhaps most chiefly when he's eating.

"Okay, so then I told Samu to shut up, because-"

"Miya," Kiyoomi interrupts. "Please don't speak with your mouth full. You'll choke."
His cheeks are stuffed full with rice, bulging ridiculously as he chatters on mindlessly, and the hamster imagery has never been stronger.

"Mm, okay," Atsumu replies flippantly, before swallowing quickly and returning to his story.

Kiyoomi can only sigh in response.
Another thing: when he isn't using cutlery, Atsumu holds anything he eats with two hands.

Kiyoomi has seen him nibbling on whole chocolate bars with both hands cradling the wrapper, and poor food choices aside, it's a strange habit.
He eats sandwiches the same way too, both hands toting the square of bread like a hamster holds a single sunflower seed, happily gnawing away.

On the topic of sunflower seeds - Kiyoomi has come to realize that Atsumu loves snacks, but sunflower seeds are perhaps his favourite.
He can be seen chomping on the treat almost all the time, and Kiyoomi isn't proud to admit that he now carries at least two packets of the seeds in his gym bag.

He has, on more than one occasion, thrown Atsumu a packet of sunflower seeds just to get him to stop talking.
The crunching that follows is only a marginal improvement, but it at least buys him a few minutes of peace and calm.

Only a few minutes though, because Atsumu goes through the snack like a hamster on a rampage, munching them to dust in just over a couple minutes.

Terrifying.
Miya Atsumu is a hamster, and the resemblance is so uncanny that it horrifies Kiyoomi, not least because he absolutely adores hamsters more than anything else in the world.
And if he pulls up a "How to Get Your Hamster to Like You" online guide when he starts wooing Atsumu, well, nobody has to know that.
