Hello everyone! With 'Legacy' rapidly approaching and appearing to be a significant next chapter in the Apex story, I thought I'd do a simple thread on how we got here; the plotlines and foundations that led to where we are now. Hopefully this proves useful as a refresher! 💖
By the end of the Frontier War, the Apex Predators are torn asunder. Kuben Blisk, the only surviving member of the infamous mercenary unit, retreats to the Outlands - a distant corner of the Frontier far removed from any kind of Militia or IMC jurisdiction.
It’s here that he plays a major role building the Apex Games, serving as Commissioner under the Syndicate banner as things begin to take shape; a ruthless bloodsport, broadcast to a massive audience, where the best of the best fight for money and status. Hard to come by post-war.
As the roster of Legends we know today begins to fill out, Bangalore appears to slide a small note toward Blisk to advertise Rampart - her friend - as a potential Legend. At the time, Blisk promises nothing more than to keep an eye on her and see if all that talk holds weight.
Most importantly, he mentions that he’ll be going off the grid for a while. A log from the buildup to Season 4 may tell us just how long “a while” was - Jacob Young and Cheryl Amacci mention that Blisk has been missing for "a year" during the time of Forge's murder.
Loba’s arrival to the Games (upon her discovery of Revenant's presence) in Season 5 serves as the catalyst to the central narrative we’re still grappling with today, with the hunt for the Broken Ghost. This quest saw the Legends aiding Loba in the retrieval of a rare artifact.
This is an artifact Hammond has her hunting in exchange for Revenant’s source code. The Legends may not know what they’re building as they gather the pieces, but the ending gives us a shocking reveal; it's the head of Ash, another simulacrum and one of Blisk's Apex Predators.
Deep in the bowels of Kings Canyon, an old IMC facility still has the remnants of Ash’s chassis. Her path since the end of the war is unclear, but with the head returned, Ash is rebooted. “The path ends here. Welcome… to Olympus.” are the haunting words that we’re left with.
It isn’t until Season 6 we see her again, living in a warehouse with Pathfinder. Ash explains that after Hammond pulled a number of codes - most likely including Rev’s source code - from her memory, she was thrown out. Path found her in a dumpster outside of a Hammond facility.
It's here that she is also reunited with an old ally. One who is revealed to be the reason for the sorry state she is left in before being repaired in the Broken Ghost. There's a lot of tension, Ash unsure of Blisk's claim that he'd have returned for her given time.
Kuben Blisk had returned to the Outlands after his long period missing in Syndicate files. He hadn’t been back long, first seen offering that elusive Apex card to Rampart as her shop burned around her at Season 6 launch. Bangalore’s tip had paid off big time for Rampart’s future.
As eagle eyed lorehounds noticed back during Season 6, Rampart had a very familiar Northstar Titan being worked on in her shop before it burned and she became a Legend. One belonging to Viper, another of Blisk’s Apex Predator mercenaries killed during the events of Titanfall 2.
Valkyrie’s SftO has answered where this came from after so long, with Rampart helping her to reassemble it into an exoskeleton platform. When the Games went to Olympus, a successful contract negotiation with Cheryl Amacci had Rampart move it into a new shop atop the flying city.
Piecing this together with the info from Season 4 that Blisk had been missing for an extended period of time, suggests the trip to Typhon was extremely recent. While it’s unclear what purpose Blisk had for retrieving Viper’s Titan, we know it was ultimately taken by Valkyrie.
But it all led to where we are now. In Rampart's new mod shop on Olympus, the Northstar modifications were completed and Valkyrie's wings were forged. Her entry to the Games was imminent. She had taken one of Blisk's Apex cards for herself like her father, Viper, did before her.
Horizon is the final piece of the puzzle leading into the story of ‘Legacy’. The celebrated scientist has a troubled past with Ash. Or, as Horizon would know her, Dr Reid. Who she was before being Ash. And the source of the great betrayal that left Horizon stranded in deep space.
With Ash having a large presence in the launch trailer and the newly announced Arenas gamemode, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of these two’s intertwined fates. Especially looking at both Ash's many memories of time with Horizon and the unique dialogue in the in-game teaser.
But that's enough for today I think 😅

Hopefully this is helpful to any who may have missed out on loading screen snippets or seasonal comics! It can be hard to keep track of this stuff, but it's cool to see how far we've come and what's led to where we are now ✨

Thanks!
