Since our CM KCR @TelanganaCMO has declared that everyone in Telangana needs to be given/will be given the Covid Vaccine FREE, here's what's next:

1. We already know Center will purchase 50% of vaccine produced in India & distribute to states for FREE.

2. The rest of the 50% production capacity can be purchased by States (all states) & Private Hospitals.

3. Current production capacities of the 2 vaccines currently available in India:
CoviShield = 70+ Million/Month
CoVaxin = 12+ Million/Month

Total = 82 Million/Month

4. Of course the govt has recently approved the Russian Vaccine Sputnik V.
We do not have info at the moment, on the numbers with respect to Sputnik V.

So, let's assume the total capacity on May 1st is 82 Million per Month.

5. If this 82 MpM (Millions per Month), the Central govt has exclusive right to procure and will procure half i.e 41 Million doses every month.

6. The rest of the 41 Million doses every month can be bought by State governments AND Private Hospitals across the country.

7. Telangana will keep getting FREE vaccines from the Central Government from it's 50% quota as usual, so vaccinations of all 18+ olds will go on continuously.

8. Now, for the rest of the 50% production available to states & private hospitals, who gets how much depends on who orders HOW MUCH and WHEN.

The more the DELAY in a state ordering the vaccine from the 50% capacity reserved for states & private hospitals, the LATER the state govt will recieve the vaccines.
As most likely the manufactures will ship the vaccines on a FIFO (First In, First Out) basis.

ANNOUNCING everyone will get the vaccine FREE is one thing.

But, unless the particular State ORDERS & PAYS for the vaccines, the only FREE vaccines people will be getting will be those that are paid for by the Center (from its 50% quota) & allocated to the state for FREE.

Even without a particular state ordering for a SINGLE vaccine, the FREE vaccine drive will carry on - as long as the Center keeps sending vaccines that the Center totally pays for from its 50% quota.

12. So can a State provide FREE vaccine to ALL its people without paying for even a single vaccine?

OR by paying for only a few vaccines?

Yes.
If the Center keeps on sending FREE vaccines until every Indian is vaccinated.

13. Then why should States buy vaccines at all?
Can't they just announce that they will be FREE and just sit back, relax and let the Center keep sending FREE vaccines until everyone in the State is vaccinated?

Yes. They CAN.
