People as far afield as Brazil, Canada, Poland and Mexico listening to Katarzyna Marciniak of @OMChildhood introducing our event celebrating CSCP& #39;s partnership with @SonyaNevin and Steve Simons of #Panoply Vase Animation Project, so excited for the premier of their new videos...
& #39;Libation& #39; from #Panoply part of their work as part of @OMChildhood #OMC - Zeus offers a libation in a stately and yet domestic scene; wonderful for teaching both about the gods and their relationships as well as helping students to understand libation as part of Greek religion
#Sappho brings to life the ancient tale of the wedding of Andromache and Hector to the musical score created by @ArmandDAngour Wonderful for creating a sense of how these myths were shared over time by poets and artists #Panoply #OMC
If that wasn& #39;t enough #Sappho 44 we& #39;re treated to the gorgeous performance of the original Greek by Aliki Markantonatou using the score of @ArmandDAngour

Truly brings to life the nature of ancient poetry and the relationship between the words on the page, music and performance.
Onto the second half of the day where we& #39;re sharing teaching and learning ideas to make best use of #Panoply resources. Kicking off with CSCP colleague
@HayMagistra
discussing how she made use of the animations to develop students& #39; visual literacy and understanding of Greek art
"Just showing students a picture of a pot and asking & #39;what do you see?& #39; is asking them to explain a complex work of literature when they& #39;ve just learnt the alphabet"

Important to help students decode and understand images rather than assuming that they have a prior framework.
"To what extent is this poster the same as this vase?"

Now, there& #39;s an interesting assignment to mark from @HayMagistra ...
Check out http://www.panoply.org.uk/animations.html ">https://www.panoply.org.uk/animation... for not only the animations but also teaching resources and information about the vases including powerpoints and discussion activities plus accompanying short documentaries #Panoply
Olivia Gillman, Head of Drama at Ashbourne 6th Form College discussing with us how she used the Dionysus animation alongside the resources from the @NationalTheatre to explore the role of Dionysus in the origins of theatre
Doing a vase voiceover - great way to get students engaging with the images and the stories; @MsCBristow is a huge fan of the deer in this animation as were Olivia& #39;s students! Which character would you most want to voice?
Amazing feedback from Olivia& #39;s students about the #Panoply animation and how it enhanced their understanding of Dionysus and theatrehttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😀" title="Grinsendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Grinsendes Gesicht">
Back to #Sappho and getting a snapshot of the 15 minute documentary that accompanies the animation including @ArmandDAngour giving an insight into ancient Greek music and how he went about reconstructing the music that might have accompanied fragment 44 - what a great resource!
Rob Hancock-Jones from @TownleyGrammar on his use of the #Sappho resources with his Yr 13 Love and Relationship class for #ClassCivAlevel - opens by commenting how accessible they made this area to a teacher who is less familiar with Sappho and teaching her for her first time
Rob& #39;s students were so excited to see a fragment of Sappho that wasn& #39;t on the specification, re-energised them to recap their learning and they learnt a lot about Sappho from watching the video even though they& #39;d studied her before
All students able to analyse Frag 44 and also engage with scholarship for their 30 mark essay; remember, you can use non-prescribed sources in essays, knowledge of 44 is creditable! Rob struck by how quickly students were drawing conclusions and the quality of their understanding
Students themselves felt that they learnt a lot from the videos and enjoyed the experience a lot! Rob considering using these materials as an intro to #Sappho next year so students can get a feel for her work and her world. @TownleyGrammar #Panoply #OMC
Popular suggestion from Prof. Katarzyna Marciniak @OMChildhood that we create a way that teachers all over the world can share their ideas and how they use the materials in the classroom and hopefully encourage more people to introduce myth and ancient art into their classrooms
Wonderful to hear from Dr. Alfred Twardecki about how the #Panoply animations made him look at the vases with fresh eyes; we hope that they do the same for teachers and students all over the world! Do check them out and share far and wide http://www.panoply.org.uk/animations.html ">https://www.panoply.org.uk/animation...
