1/3 Today I want to talk about drug policy

Glasgow has in recent years had one of the worst outbreaks of HIV in 3 decades with around 10% of the drug injecting population testing positive

In 2019 over 1200 drug overdose related deaths were recorded

Solutions were needed
2/3 Scotland proposed the use of safe consumption rooms in 2017 a move which was not approved at central government level.

Safe injecting sites were adopted by countries such as Denmark, Spain & Luxembourg

Luxembourg had 0 overdose deaths in their programs first 4 years
3/3 Or should we be taking even more radical action?

For example decriminalisation of drugs altogether?

This table shows the impact of decriminalisation of drugs in Portugal. Certainly worthy of discussion
