Sorry to feed the industry pay discourse but I was sorting through paperwork today and found some old payslips.
I pay my part time interns more than I was paid to be a full time experienced Community Manager at Ubisoft.
It was a while ago but still shocking to see.

Genuinely unsure how I survived on so little money.
In the time between joining the industry in 2007 and just before I joined Bethesda in 2012, I had 4 role changes and a £6k increase in 5 years.
Community Moderator - £19k
Community Manager - £21k
PR Executive - £23k
UK Market Executive - £25k
All in London.

Excuses I was given for not getting pay rises:
- "we didn't meet company profit goals"
- "you've just had a promotion"
- "it's the going rate"
- "you don't have a degree"
- "if we increase your pay, you'd be earning the same as (man in same role) and he's more experienced"

It's worth noting that I joined the games industry young. I was 19yo when I got my first job.
I was super naïve and full of self doubt and I absolutely should have fought more. But when you're the only woman on the team, and the youngest, it's hard to advocate for yourself.

This is why mentoring is so, so important.
Some more excuses not to give me pay rises that I just remembered.
- "you're only x years old"
- "you don't have kids or a mortgage to pay"
- "we've given you a 3% increase, that should be enough"
- " we issued bonuses this year (I got £500)"

I remember how much bonus I got paid because I'd never had one before and I was so overjoyed that I'd been given such a large amount of money

Dropping this here because it's even more ridiculous than anything I have experienced and should be seen more. Fucking yikes. https://twitter.com/Anodesu/status/1385694963506294786?s=19
