Today is International Sculpture Day, so here’s a brief thread about the work I’ve done promoting an interest in my city’s sculptures via the “Statues of Dublin” Instagram page I set up in 2019 & its complimentary YouTube channel set up in 2020 ... #isd #InternationalSculptureDay
In June 2019, I created “Statues of Dublin” on Instagram to feature new and old photos/images of the city’s many sculptures. The page now has over 3,000 followers and it’s nice to regularly get supportive comments/messages from Dubliners at home and abroad
Last year, I set up a YouTube channel to post videos and give talks about Dublin sculptures.

Here’s a link to one of the videos featuring Luke Kelly’s voice and images of over 40 Dublin sculptures
A few months ago, a Statues of Dublin follower on Instagram sent me a poem that her father had written about his favourite Dublin statues. Enjoyed it so much, I turned it into a video:
Here’s me talking about a shark and currach in Clontarf
Here’s me talking about the Luke Kelly statue at South King Street
The Luke Kelly head at Guild Street is so big I had to cover it in two separate videos. Here’s the first looking at the background
And here’s Part 2, looking at the sculpture itself, which I love and must have stopped to look at while walking past it a hundred times
Here’s a talk about the “Mr. Screen” statue which I always loved seeing as a kid
And a talk about the Rory Gallagher guitar sculpture found in Temple Bar that a lot of people fail to notice
Me discussing the Family Unit sculpture in Fairview Park. Will always remember doing this one because of the timing and my dedication
A short presentation on the Dick McKee Memorial in Finglas
25 years after her death, a presentation about the Veronica Guerin bust located in the Dubh Linn Gardens
A short presentation about the unusual sculpture found at Marlborough Place
Me (and a special guest) discussing the Jim Larkin statue on O’Connell Street
A short presentation on the mother and child statue in Finglas
Me talking about Countess Markievicz and her dog Poppet
Me talking about the Constance Wilde statue in Merrion Square Park
The Statues of Dublin mascot ❤️
At the moment all my events with @DubHistorians are obviously done online, but hopefully won’t be too long before I can start doing free talks and walking tours across Dublin
