1/ Pre #AnzacDay
story time.
Back in 1994 when @MelB_1820 & I first started dating I met her Granny Mac - her nickname was Noogs, but straight away she became my Grandma too (I never really knew mine). Granny Mac was an amazing lady and awesome baker.

2/ One day she was cooking ANZAC biscuits when I was over - simply because when visitors came, she knocked up morning tea. She never bought a cake - it was cooked by her, or it wasnât in her house. This is her at our wedding (yes, we were young).
3/ Anyway, this one day when she was cooking #ANZACbiscuits I happened to mention that they were my favourite biscuit - but they *had* to be chewy. You know the way - you hold them parallel to the ground & slowly watch them bend. Yum!
4/ Fast forward 5 yr & who is it that finds himself recalled off his honeymoon & deployed to #InterFET in Sep 99? Yep - this guy. Whilst most of Melâs family were probably happy to see me go, Granny Mac kept me in her daily prayers - and she remembered that I loved her biscuits.
5/ So she baked ANZAC biscuits. Lots of them. When I got the first care package from her, it was amazing. The 2nd & 3rd packages were great too. By the 4th, we had an issue. You see, @RSL_National also started sending ANZAC biscuits. Container loads of them!
6/ Donât get me wrong, these mass produced cookies were terrible compared to Granny Macâs much loved ones.... but as we all know, once a market is flooded, the value of your investment drops. In the end, my platoon had enough ANZAC biscuits to build a fighting position!
7/ But I dared not tell Granny Mac - she was doing her bit for âthe war effortâ.
A few months later & Iâm home on posting. On our drive from Sydney to Darwin (5400km) @MelB_1820 & I stopped in & saw Granny Mac. Guess what was for smoko? Yep ANZAC bloody biscuits!!!

8/ Granny Mac died when Miss18 was 10 months old (photo of the 2 of them below) - we think about her a lot. Her dedication to the #RomanCatholic faith (but she came to our #Anglican wedding), her love of family, her caring nature. Even her biscuits. Mel is very much like her.
9/9 So hereâs to you, Betty Mac /Granny / Noogs. You were 1 of a kind. In your memory, I asked your favourite granddaughter @MelB_1820 to make ANZAC bickies for your great granddaughters & favourite grandson-in-law to enjoy on #AnzacDay2021
. Theyâre not as good as yours though
