Please be mindful of this. I have seen lots of tweets recently berating others for not following back. It isn't 'impolite'. It isn't someone being 'egotistical'. Often it is someone merely protecting their wellbeing and virtual space.
We are allowed to choose who we let into our virtual space. No one show feel coerced into following thousands of people. it isn't helpful for women who have to deal with unsolicited DMs constantly. When you are expected to back it is very easy for this to happen.
I have had past experiences that I have blogged about on the @TheSafeSpaceUK that talk about this in more detail. People should be able to protect themselves. Please don't make them feel bad about this.
Aside from the safety issue, people should just be able to follow who they choose! I use Twitter in a very particular way. My feed is filled with blogs, tips, positivity, truth, insight, cats, fashion, marvel and friends. It is curated. We are adults. Let's stop policing others.
If you want to follow thousands and thousands please go right ahead. If you want to follow fifty people then do that. It doesn't matter! I genuinely think edutwitter would be a nicer place if the follower count was removed. Too many people become fixated with numbers.
