The Australien and Victorien Governments have made an ad about their Electric Vehicle policies, and it's surprisingly honest and informative!

Tell the Victorian Parliament to stop the EV tax:

Hi friends, hereâs our latest Honest Government Ad about our Govermentâs EV âpolicyâ aka âThe Future Fuels Strategyâ, aka FFS. And no thatâs not satire, itâs what they really called it⊠presumably in an attempt to put satirists out of work

The video is primarily about our woeful federal (lack of) policy on EVs but I also had to include the Victorian State Govt (which I think normally does a lot of *good* things) given their decision to introduce a tax on EVs ffs... https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/apr/22/the-worst-electric-vehicle-policy-in-the-world-automotive-coalition-pans-victorias-ev-tax
Victoria will be voting on the EV tax in early May so if you want to let them know how you feel about it, the folks at @TheAusInstitute have put together a petition which theyâll hand deliver to crossbench MPs ahead of the vote.

And yess taxes are good! Weâve never made a video attacking taxation per se. In fact, an EV Road User Charge is a good idea â once EVs are more mainstream. But not when only 0.7% of new car sales in
are EVs (far behind the 4.2% global average). The timing of this tax is bsaf

As Richard Denniss @RDNS_TAI says: âWe tax things we want to discourage (eg. tobacco), not things we want to encourage. And as ppl stop smoking we don't worry abt the impact on the health budget: we say âAh thatâs working wellâ. The same is true for carsâ https://twitter.com/TheAusInstitute/status/1354991575177158659?s=20
This isn't about being "anti-tax". That's a cynical frame to use. Just stop to think how crazy its is that even Scandinavian countries, famous for high taxation, are exempting EVs from taxes and other fees as a means of encouraging EV uptake. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021/02/electric-vehicles-europe-percentage-sales/
And yes Aussies are ready to stop being the world's biggest fucking losers, and catch up to the rest of the world by encouraging EVs. So come on FFS https://australiainstitute.org.au/post/majority-of-australians-support-ev-policies-including-subsidies-for-new-car-purchases/
As always, I couldn't have written this HGA without the work of excellent people doing excellent research and journalism on this topic.. Such as @KetanJ0 who slays Government shitfuckery like nobody else. https://reneweconomy.com.au/taylor-rehashes-old-climate-delay-tactics-with-new-hybrid-vehicle-plan/
Ketan also writes about Norway, where he lives, and which is showing the world how itâs done when it comes to transitioning from the fossil-fuel engine to EVs â and which again shows just how perversely arse-to-front Victoriaâs EV tax is: https://thedriven.io/2020/12/03/2020-was-the-starter-pistol-on-evs-now-the-world-looks-to-norway-for-inspiration/
As always, Simon Holes Ă Court @simonahac is onto it with his usual razor sharp analysis and commentary, which always helps me understand what's going on: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/feb/08/australias-electric-vehicle-policy-steers-us-to-a-future-based-on-fossil-fuels-it-needs-to-be-dumped
Audrey Quickeâs submission to the Govtâs FFS policy is a must read and has all the info you need - I used a lot of the figures from this report - seriously read it: https://australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/The-Australia-Institute-FFDP-Submission.pdf
And another one of my favourite writers and researchers on auspol/climate/energy shitfuckery, @RichieMerzian, has been super helpful to me in writing on the topic https://thedriven.io/2020/08/19/how-norway-ended-the-ice-age-and-why-it-should-inspire-australia/
Behyad Jafari @BJafari CEO of @EVCouncil the national body representing the EV industry in Australia is popping up everywhere talking about the EV tax and informing people, like this:

https://electricvehiclecouncil.com.au/new-electric-car-sales-figures-show-australia-stalled-with-hazards-flashing/
And finally hereâs the Govtâs FFS policy âtalking paperâ for those who want to read it. https://consult.industry.gov.au/climate-change/future-fuels-strategy/supporting_documents/Future%20Fuels%20Strategy%20%20Discussion%20Paper.pdf
There was so much to say on this topic, I couldnât fit all the shitfuckery in 1 video, like how
also has one of the lowest fuel quality standards in the world, thanks to our Govt, so they're not just screwing EV drivers but regular car drivers too FFS https://www.caradvice.com.au/748124/australias-petrol-standards-and-cheap-fuel-to-remain-unchanged-until-2027/

But hey thatâs exactly where the Juice Media Podcast comes in handy as a companion to the video, allowing us to discuss the topic in more detail - and I'm stoked that @KetanJ0 will be my guest for this one! So stay tuned: the podcast will be out next week! https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-juice-media-podcast/id1469018080
