A few thoughts on the Giggs situation, the summer, and beyond. A thread. With the benefit of hindsight, the FAW have done as much as they can in terms of handling this situation, although I do maintain more communication may have helped. I guess they didn’t anticipate the time.
Obviously the global situation has meant this has gone on for as long as it has, and at the start I’m sure everyone wanted (and would have hoped) it would be resolved quickly. It is what it is I suppose. Their reaction to the news today though was swift, effective and appropriate
In Page they have made the right call regarding leading the team into the tournament. He deserves our full backing. From the moment he’s come in he’s done a good job in difficult circumstances. I’d argue he’d be more popular with fans at the moment than Giggs was in the 1st place
As for Giggs, I maintain he should walk to “concentrate on legal issues” & do what’s right. I’m not sure he can come back from this, at least not with the fans, even if he’s found innocent. He’s putting himself above everyone else which is wrong. Can he ever come back to the job?
Lastly I wonder what the players think of him and the situation? Looking forward, despite my previous thoughts, I guess Page should be given the opportunity to lead this team, beyond Euro 2020 too. With the WCQ’s already starting, and the work he’s done, he should be rewarded.
I think everyone has done the best they can to handle this, with the exception of Giggs of course, but with the confusion around the tournament itself, and now this, it feels like a lot of the glory and fun of qualifying has been taken out of Euro 2020 to an extent.
Whatever happens, we’ll support the team, the staff, and hopefully do Wales proud. I’m looking forward to the tournament and I hope we can once more show the world what we are capable of.
