It’s been a tough week for football and for fans listening to the plans for the ESL. As fans we want our club to be about the football. We want them to prioritise football above most other things bar great community work that so many clubs undertake. However....
Clubs at the very top level want to make money and lots of it. They see it as part of the entertainment industry where the product is football. At Spurs with our new stadium there are many revenue streams they explore. As a business why not? The ESL....
Is the clubs wanting a bigger piece of the pie on an international level. Project Big Picture (remember that?) is about having a larger slice domestically. Obviously the anti competitive nature of ESL was quite wrong but from a cutting out the middleman you can...
See why they have considered this route. It’s a power play with UEFA and we will see if it resets its ugly head again. I think it will in a much more inclusive format that will seem more acceptable. Doubt they will leave it to lie. Too much at stake...
We are hearing murmurings of PBP starting up again. Watch that space that won’t go away either. Don’t forget the PL was formed originally by 5 clubs including Spurs. This is a natural commercial evolution like it or not. Middlemen beware....
What can we as fans do about these greedy owners? Not a great deal other than buy them out. Remember they see vast revenue increases so whatever equally vast sums of cash you come up with it better match their forecasts otherwise you won’t get a foot in the door...
What about protests? Yep why not? Shouting and holding up banners and placards or hiring a plane to do so are the options available to you. Do they work? Partially. They create a media noise. Do the owners care? Maybe. Especially if it affects their income. Can...
It force their hand? I don’t believe so. Look a Newcastle. Do their protests work? Clubs at the highest level do want their bums on seats but they don’t really care who’s bums they are. So what can we do?
If you want to make any difference to have to get them to engage in conversation as THST have been doing well for years now. They have had their successes and they work tirelessly for Spurs fans to let the club know what we want. We have had them on the @TheVARSidePod a few times
Last night. There was a press release from THST explaining that they’d voted essentially to move to ask the owners of Spurs to replace the executive board at Spurs. They felt the situation was untenable and all trust has been lost due to the ESL.
As Enic are the owners and Levy has around a 30% shareholding in Enic how is that meant to work? They also want a fan representative on the board. Of a private company? A fan as a director? Why would they do that?
Unless there is a hidden (and brilliant) grand plan here I have no idea why the club would entertain any of their requests. In fact, I am unsure that the club will want to engage properly with the trust again. The bottom line is the club don’t have to do anything. Fact. 👀
The more I though about this the more annoying this stance is. THST represents the fans. That’s the whole point right? Why didn’t they consult first with the fans and ask them how they wanted this dealt with? They complained when the club didn’t consult about the ESL...
Maybe emotions are running high and that culminated in this stance. It wasn’t borne out of any logic. Trying to be heavy handed in these situations gets you absolutely nowhere.
Sorry for the long thread. I don’t have a definitive answer to how we solve these issues. Asking for a board to remove themselves is folly at best.

Let’s try and enjoy the cup final. #COYS
