I was abused by my teachers and my parents were not present. I was assessed as “gifted” as a child and almost failed out of school.
Other gifted kids in my school included a heroin addict and a kid regularly sexually assaulted by his father.

My mom (interestingly since she gave up caring about my education when I was 13)was a gifted teacher at another district.
Many of her students came from abusive homes. She once had to go to a family’s home to tell them to stop hitting their kid because no one else would.
