hi, let’s talk about the correct ways to use tone tags/srs

first, here is a list of some tone tags you might come across (additional: /sx for sexual and /nsx for not sexual)

if you where says something that might not be clearly a joke, use /j
ex: “ i hate you/j” as they don’t seriously hate the person

/lh i see misused a lot. it is not a “say whatever you want and then label it that you don’t have a rude intent”,

ex of it being used: “lmao big fail there, take the L/lh” to show that you have no ill intent towards the person

the last one i want to talk about is /p many people use it in any context. ex of incorrect: *someone’s selfieday* “oh my god you’re so pretty/p”
i may not be able to pick up social cues, but i’m not an idiot. i know you calling me pretty isn’t a confession of your undying love

ex of correct usage: *private chat* i love you!/p
even in other contexts the tone tag doesn’t need to be there. but if you are in a private chat and are trying to show your friendship the tone tag can be necessary

another thing to note is that note everything needs a tone tag. we’re neurodivergent , not two year olds. you don’t need to say “hi/pos/gen” because we don’t think you’re saying pos with ill intent in the first place. tone tags are used when tone is not clear.
