marvel needs to never make another attempt at discussing race again i fear
what they were trying to do is better shown than said. we didn’t need awkward & surface-level race dialogue every episode. the moments that felt real (visiting new orleans, the crawfish boil, the black kids paying basketball or messing with the shield) were shown & not said.
sam’s best moments were when he was interacting with other black characters (his sister, isaiah, etc) if you wanna showcase blackness, give us more black leads and let them interact. some of the cringy race convos was boderline unwatchable like what was the point?
i also would like to add that the show that was supposed to address racism and blah blah had two opportunities to set up more black super heroes, battle star and the patriot, and just didnt. i’m sure the patriot is coming in the future but it literally could’ve happened here....
last thing... did battle star really have to die for john walkers arc? bc at first i was like ohhh i get it john is gonna go crazy but he killed that person and by the finale is like... no longer crazy? his death felt meaningless i fear
