Thread: 16 year #Runescape veteran plays #FinalFantasyXIV for the first time.
One thing jumps out to me immediately: you wouldn't expect this at all, but the writing and dialogue in Runescape is a lot more lighthearted and comedic, and your character is a huge smartass. This takes itself more seriously.
So far the music is interesting, and sounds nice, but no music track has really jumped out at me yet.
In OSRS, I had 3 super memorable music tracks in my head before I even spent 30 minutes playing.
Combat feels like a traditional JRPG. I'd say both games are fairly easy to pick up and understand. Though RS's interface is a LOT easier to take in for first timers. This is more convoluted.
That being said, this interface is more flexible so you still get something for it being more cluttered.
FF14 has a lot of basic JRPG-esque quests and sidequests with little writing - fetch this, kill that, etc.
Every quest in Runescape has charming dialogue. Even Cook's Assistant, which is a tutorial-esque fetch quest. FF14 makes me appreciate the effort Jagex put into RS's writing
Alright, I'm level 7 and finished some story quests. I'm gonna put the game down for now so I can play with @PMS_Jordan this weekend... Alongside our OSRS session 😊 ain't MMOs great?

I'll continue this thread later.
I know it sounds like I'm bitching about FF14, but I'm still gonna keep playing it. I know most MMOs are slow burners and I'm sure there will be stuff in this game I really like and feel it does better than RS. I haven't played enough yet to fully judge.
