Since I know everyone will be curious: this is a DEA-approved shipment of cannabis, meant for “analysis” not human research. It’s one of the first approved international imports of #cannabis to the US.
And yes, it’s kept in a vault. There’s a giant vault door with your typical vault locks -and- a biometric scanner for the inner door. Lots of security for Schedule I Controlled Substances.
Here’s one full shipment of #cannabis from the Netherlands: it’s two containers — one of flower and one that’s already been ground. I was like “...that’s it? That’s the whole shipment” A lot of work went into getting these two containers to the US for scientific analysis.
These 2 empty grow rooms are why this lab has imported cannabis from out of the country: the DEA has been sitting on research cultivation license apps for 4 years, and so researchers can’t grow their own.
