SPOILERS FOR MORTAL KOMBAT (if anyone cares)

wow, they really had to kill the black guy first, didn't they? they didn't even give him his purple energy blast arm things! what is up with that?

so far the movie is watchable but pretty lame and overserious.

these types of movies really need to go the m:i fallout/fury road route and just write the movie as it goes along, putting more emphasis on storyboarding and directing the stunts than writing a screenplay. the story is fluff, and it's not what people are there for.

also, I don't typically suggest this in movies, but you didn't need to make anyone the main character. purely just appealing to screenwriting rules by making kung lao the audience surrogate. don't need 40 minutes of exposition.

kano definitely the MVP so far. sonya blade huge snore.

the editing is not doing it for me lol, just let the shots breathe a little!

the maps in the game are so small yet so filled with character and detail. the locations in this movie are just boring warehouses and grey-looking deserts. why did movies get this way.

whedon-ass quips distracting from the fact that this movie is kinda boring lol

man, I don't need to see Jax's origin happen in real time. just have him be robot-armed from the start.

raiden's eyes look bad, why did they give him pupils lol

I'd like a mortal kombat movie about sub-zero and scorpion being told old buddies who fell out (not for any lore reasons, mind you), and the tournament serves to settle that dispute. screenplay has personal stakes: check.

back on. not really paying attention at this point. pretty boring and bland.

"Dad, use your uppercut!" Lol.

All these characters so poorly developed and yet the movie still expects us to care about them. This whole thing should've been 90 minutes with already established characters, some brief worldbuilding and setting of stakes, and then you'd just watch the tournaments play out.

This movie is sooo small! Like, the movie spends so much time trying to make it seem like a big event with world-ending stakes, but there are few wide shots and they're fighting in a cave and someone's backyard.

In the games, Sonya blade has an actual costume with armor. Here, she's in a green tank top and jeans.

Will say that the VFX artists did a pretty good job. The CGI does not look as cheap and rushed as I was expecting.

why couldn't they just make scorpion the main character? he's at least kind of cool unlike this Cole Young guy.

Haha they're setting up a sequel? Nah.
