This is a fun story to share. In my AP Government and Politics class, the students are playing a role-playing game designed by John Patrick Coby wherein we recreate the Constitutional Convention.
20 students have a character, biography, ideology, motives. We write a Constitution.
20 students have a character, biography, ideology, motives. We write a Constitution.
But there are a lot of twists and turns, one of which is that if news of the convention is "leaked" by the Confederalists, the Nationalists threshold to enact the Constitution goes from 70% to 75%.
For the purposes of the game, "leaks" occur on the senior class bulletin board and must not be discovered before 7th period.
My high schoolers being my high schoolers, they've taken to using "leaks" to denounce each other ... in meme form.
Anyway, they're very entertained by all this, so I expect the "leaks" will continue.
[The best part is that while they're using memes, backbiting, secret alliances, and trickery, they're inadvertently learning the difference between a Hamiltonian Republic and a Madisonian one.]
[You've never seen a student so worked up about unicameralism as "Mr. Martin" was after she lost the vote on Wednesday.]
Anyway, if you're interested in the game, I highly recommend it. I mean heck if you have like 15 other nerdy friends you could just do it because it's fun. https://www.amazon.com/Constitutional-Convention-1787-Constructing-American/dp/0393640906/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=reacting+the+past+patrick+coby&qid=1619222812&sr=8-1
And yes, I'm playing. As George Washington (the perks of being the teacher). And yes I'm dressing up for the role.
